As soon as we stepped out of the car at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge, we saw this little fella strolling along. Their part in the ecosystem is eating damaging pests, but mostly, they’re food for the birds and other predators. However, if they make it to butterfly form, they contribute as pollinators as well.
